This is considered by some to a be a sutler note issued by the Sawyers, and was cataloged as such in the Grover Criswell collection notes sold by Kagin's at the 1977 ANA sale. The series is listed in the sutler section in Kraus. Printed on white rag paper by Britton & Freligh, prs., Memphis. Under the arced CONFEDERATE STATES EXCHANGE, a circular vignette shows an eagle with a shield on the breast feathers and sun's rays in background. The top left shows a seated allegorical female holding a sickle in one hand and, with the other, supporting a cartouche showing a steamboat. In the upper right, field hands pick cotton. The lower right has \"$2,\" which indicates the plate style. Noted as \"Edge and Internal Splits and Damage; Backed.\" The backing is a thin paper sheet added to strengthen the paper. This faces up nicely, with strong details in the vignettes. When offered, this rare title and type always attracts enthusiastic bidding. Ex: Eric P.
