No printer's imprint. Third edition. Small 4to, original purple cloth, front cover lettered and decorated in gilt. (4), 42, (1) pages, pagination skipping one page, with 3 unnumbered leaves of advertising following the plates; frontispiece; Treasury Department facsimile letter; unnumbered and unpunched Heath bank note facsimile plate; 16 engraved plates of bank notes or elements, comprising impressions of genuine and counterfeit fractional currency notes (Plate 1), 10 engraved plates numbered 2-11 depicting genuine bank note design elements, an impression of a counterfeit $100 First National Bank of Boston note (Plate 12), and four unnumbered plates being impressions of a counterfeit $20 Fourth National Bank of New York note and a counterfeit $10 First National Bank of Philadelphia note, as well as counterfeit 1862 $10 and $50 United States notes. Plate 5 printed in green ink; full-size counterfeit plates printed in green and black ink and hole-punched as issued. The 3-BH printings can be confusing, with close attention required to ensure against missing significant points. This is partly because this edition has an unusual number of errors in it in, including erroneous page numbers, poor indexing, incorrect plate numbering and misleading phrasing. This edition includes the first advertising for the American Bond Detector in the Banking House and Counting Room Edition. The relative scarcity of these printings has yet to be established. Some spine wear and toning, but still an attractive near fine copy. Estimate $400 Ex: Eric P.
