PCGS Fine 15.  This is a great New York City title with a central vignette of City Hall Park beautifully engraved by Toppan, Carpenter, Casilear & Co. Flanking are \"1\" red protectors. At lower left is a demure female portrait. The New York Bank seal is at the lower right. The bank was founded in 1853, and issued a short series of Obsolete notes before it closed and redeemed its notes. A few years later, it converted to charter 376, and emitted Original Series National Banknotes. In the 20th Century the bank became a savings bank, and its headquarters is a landmark multi-story stone edifice sitting on a full block within the crossings of Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue between 73rd and 74th Streets. Superior to the example sold in Stack's 2009 White Oak Collection Sale (lot 8187, Ex: Guevrekian Collection) for $1,265. Less than a handful of issued notes exist from the bank, and this is the finest we have seen. Ex: Eric P.
