The combination of the Merchants National Bank and the Laclede National Bank in 1895 created one of the biggest banking establishments west of the Mississippi River. Third Charter notes are encountered readily, but considerably fewer early notes are known than one might expect. The vignettes feature Franklin and Electricity and America Seizing the Lightning.
