Virginia July 11, 1771 5 Pounds Contemporary Counterfeit Fr. VA-61. PCGS Extremely Fine 40 Apparent. This is a very rare counterfeit from a series where we believe the only genuine bill from the date is the 3-pound note offered previously in this sale catalog. Boyd penciled on his example, sold as Ford Part VIII: Lot 1665 for $2,300 in January 2005, \"no originals known.\" We have not encountered a genuine bill of this denomination. Similar to the 3 pounds, but with the colony arms at the left. \"Tobacco\" is specified near the top at the right and the Rind imprint is at bottom left. Since this a circulating counterfeit, the Randolph and Blair signatures are false. A vibrant note, but with some jagged trimming at the left edge. Noted with a \"Small Edge Tear near Top Center\" and a \"Missing UL Corner.\" This is much superior to the restored PMG Very Fine 20 Net note we sold in January 2016 for $2,467.50.
