St. Louis, MO - Southern Bank of St. Louis, at their Bank in St. Louis $2 June 17, 1861 MO-55 G12a SENC. PCGS Fine 12 Apparent. An extremely rare and key $2 issued note from the Southern Bank home location. There are only a handful of issued notes known from the bank, and this is the first $2 note we have seen. This American Bank Note Co. Philada. note has an interesting layout. In green are the frame (which alternates between denomination circles and floral devices), the protector at the center, and the tint outlining WILL PAY and TO BEARER. Allegorical females representing Mechanics are at the ends beneath denomination dies. Plate A. No. 23446. The signatures are faded. Noted with \"Tears and Minor Damage\" and as \"Backed.\" This appears to be an old-fashioned \"silking\" on the back, necessary to seal up some significant internal tears at the upper right.
