MX - Lot of 2 Virginia Civil War-Period City Issued Uncut Sheets. This pair of vertically arrayed sheets is austerely designed and printed, especially when compared to four-subject engraved intaglio banknotes. However, this is a rare pairing. City of Lynchburg 10-15-25-30-50-60 cents. May 1, 1862. Fully issued, and each note is signed by D. E. Spence. (An article is included about signer David Edley Spence and illustrates this sheet from Eric's collection as the only example known. The article was off-printed from the Virginia Numismatic Association journal, date unknown). Small vignettes are on each note. Worn, soiled, and with a body hole on the 30 cents. Overall VG; City of Richmond 10-10-10-10-10 cents. April 14, 1862. Fully signed and issued notes. The sheet has full margins. The typeset notes are available, but it is very difficult to find an uncut sheet. Numerous folds are across the notes, but the sheet is fresh and original with embossing prevalent throughout.
