Continental Currency September 26, 1778 $5 Fr. CC-79. PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ. This handsome September 26, 1778, note has only faint handling and appears Gem at first glance. The currency authorization amplified with this issue to just over $75,000,000. Many notes from the date were issued simultaneously with those following January 14, 1779, resolution. Additional $50 and $60 denominations were added with emblems designed by Francis Hopkinson (signer of the Declaration of Independence). The hand bleeding from thorns emblem and SUSTINE VEL ABSTINE motto are on the front. New nature-print backs (with crossed willow leaves) and ornaments were used. This is very boldly printed on both sides. Wide, even margins complement the perfect face-to-back registration. This lowest denomination from the resolution is better looking than most notes we have observed in higher grades and will fit seamlessly into a superb Continental set. Ex: Eric P.
