The grave of Ieyasu is on an isolated hilltop 100 m behind the honden. The grave measures 60 m north south and 25 m east west. Ieyasu's tomb is a hōtō (single-storey circular pagoda). The original structure of 1617 was wooden but it was rebuilt in 1641 in stone. The extant bronze structure dates from 1683. In front of the hōto is a bronze karamon, rebuilt in 1650, and before that stands a small haiden. The haiden is a wooden structure but all the columns and walls are covered with bronze sheets, a feature unique in Japanese architecture.
