This three-aisled basilica, with a dome at the east end, a tower and a tall gilded spire (122.5 m) over the west entrance, is one of the dramatic landmarks of the city. The exterior has restrained decoration of pilasters and volutes, and the interior an applied Corinthian order and Baroque iconostasis (17220-6) by Ivan Zarudny. The cathedral, which houses the tombs of Peter I and his successors, represents a radical departure from the traditional Russian onion-domed style: in the words of a contemporary, it was built \"not after the Byzantine, but after the new taste. \"Grove Dictionary of Art Print is in color through photochroms process."},{"label":"Subject (Time Period)","value":["Nineteenth century [LCSH]"]},{"label":"Physical Dimensions of Original","value":"22.3 x 16.6 cm"},{"label":"Image View Type","value":"Church; photographs"},{"label":"Collecting Area","value":["Kranzberg Art & Architecture Library"]},{"label":"Collection Name","value":["19th Century Architectural Photography Collection"]},{"label":"Subject (Geographic)","value":["Strelʹna (Saint Petersburg, Russia) [LCNAF]"]},{"label":"Description","value":"Print is in color through photochroms process"},{"label":"Subject (Topical)","value":["Religious architecture [LCSH]"]},{"label":"Genre Form","value":["Photographs [LCGFT]"]},{"label":"Type","value":["Still image"]},{"label":"Legacy Identifier","value":"8917"},{"label":"Medium","value":["black and white photography","photochroms"]},{"label":"Inscription","value":"lower left, in gold lettering: 8917.
