The diagnostics are similar. Engraved and printed by Murray, Draper, Fairman & Co. on watermarked UNITED STATES bond paper with color security threads. This is the Plate b example. At the upper right is an eagle over obligation, motto in banner, and sunburst in the background. Intricate MDF end panels show FIVE DOLLARS in cartouches. The obligation is across with the engraved date top center, and 7% interest bearing is noted. Listed as Hessler X83B. The $5 7% notes are much harder to find than the $10 notes. There appear to us to be 10 to 15 known, but many have the edge nick problems and other flaws, some due to the lack of a gutter between the notes as discussed earlier. The TN-15 in the November 2012 Stack's Bowers sale was cut cancelled and still realized $9,775. This example is exceptional, with faint handling only, and a superior, balanced cut. This is the finest looking example we have seen of this type and this is a perfect note to represent the series date and 7% obligation.  Ex: Eric P.
