The Commercial & Agricultural Bank was chartered to do business by the Mexican government in 1835, but never opened in this location. It opened for business in Galveston in 1848 and issued small quantities of notes. A handsomely engraved Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co. remainder $1 note with dual-denomination (ONE DOLLAR and UN PESO), and a Haxby listed type. At far left is a vignette of tall buckskin-clad Daniel Boone (also used on the Bank of Saline $20) and at the far upper right, a Native American paddling a canoe (used on the first Farmers & Merchants Bank of Memphis $5 in this sale).
