RI-234. PCGS Very Good 08 Apparent. This rare series of Rhode Island notes is usually encountered in damaged, lower grades unfortunately. The issue is noteworthy, though, for having some notes signed by William Ellery, Signer of the Declaration of Independence. Ellery \"Signer\" notes are quite rare and they were in very few collections until the four Boyd Rhode Island notes were sold in Ford Part XV. Those were among the finest known. This note is backed and a bit disheveled in the center, but the \"Wm. Ellery\" signature is accomplished boldly. Noted specifically with \"Splits, Tears, and Damaged; Repairs; Pieces Replaced; Design Redrawn; Backed.\" However, this is very collectible with its strong signature and is many times rarer than the better known Hart, Hopkinson, and Morton \"Signer\" notes.
