These highest denominations from the bank are known as proofs only. This handsome sheet originated in the 1990 ABN Sale where it was bought by retired Admiral, later Ambassador, J. W. \"Bill\" Middendorf. Eric acquired the sheet at the 1994 Middendorf sale at Christie's. A beautiful uncut sheet of India proofs with the Bald, Cousland & Co. Philada. & New York imprint at bottom left and the ABC monogram at the center of the right end on the $50 and center of the left end on the $100. Plate A. Both show beautiful vermillion color on the arced title, denomination dies, and protector devices. The $50 at the top has a central vignette taking place in a blacksmith's shop. The smith chats with a man holding a boy who looks toward the viewer. In the upper left corner, Agriculture, wearing pearls, supports an oval portrait of a girl. The lower right corner vignette depicts a woman holding a dove, a steamboat vignette is cupped into the title of the $100, banker Robert Aull is at lower left, and seated Justice is at lower right. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled,\" as made. There are \"Minor Restorations\" noted on the sheet, but these can only be seen with scrutiny from the back and were done by a professional Pennsylvanian archivist. We have sold only one similar sheet for $2,530 in January 2012. That was graded PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 with some India paper faults. This is another well-pedigreed example with a gorgeous layout.
