St. Louis, MO - Exchange Bank of St. Louis, at___ $10 18__ MO-10 G42a. Proof. PCGS Choice New 63 Apparent. This $10 proof is from the following series and has a deftly located ABC monogram added to the engraved plate. There are also white outlined cartouches for the signatures, serial numbers, and commissioner's signature. It is a much rarer Exchange Bank proof type that merits examination. A lovely tinted plate D India paper proof with the layout similar to the previous, from Bald, Cousland & Co. Philada. & New York with their imprint at bottom left, the patent date of June 2nd, 1857, at bottom right, and the added monogram under the right serial number space. The title arcing above is flanked by two differently styled \"10\" dies, Jefferson (replacing Bogy) is at the center, and a woman harvesting, Kate, is at lower left. The custom vignette of the Exchange Bank building, located at Third Street and Washington Avenue in St. Louis, appears at lower right. A reddish-pink lace tint covers most of the face while a darker tone outlines the white protector at the bottom, which is overlapped on the \"E\" of TEN by Jefferson's portrait. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled,\" as made. There is a PCGS-noted \"Small Edge Tear at Top Left,\" which is very difficult to discern and appears from the back to be a paper thread. The 1990 ABN Sale listings for the Exchange Bank lots are confusing, but we believe there was only one sheet with four color proofs of this type in the auction. Therefore, this is a very rare type.
