The $2 red-tinted proof from the unregistered Civil War-series is SENC in Haxby and confirmed here for the first time. Another glorious India paper proof printed from the superb plates by the American Bank Note Co., Philada. Its differing color, in contrast to issued notes printed in green, makes this technically a \"Color Trial.\" At left, History writes on parchment with a quill pen while a cherub holding a crown of laurel leaves sits at her feet. At lower right, two Native Americans view a waterfall. The red tinting is similar to that on the $1, with the wide left end panel containing the oddly shaped vignette cartouche framed all around by small \"2\" dies. The large oval die in the center outlines TWO, with TWO DOLLARS outlined on a black cartouche across it. The imprint is at the bottom. Plate A. \"Hole Punch Cancelled,\" as made. There is some India paper disintegration along the bottom left which grading notes as \"Minor Edge Damage.\" Also noted are Hinge Remnants on Back,\" light and at the center. This originally came with a die proof of the falls vignette and was affixed to a display card in the style of Julian Blanchard long ago, and likely in his collection once.
