A rare series of \"Pay the Bearer\" notes observed as lithographic proofs printed on thin brown cardstock without imprint. We have not seen these notes signed and issued. The issue was not present in the 1981 NASCA Joseph Vacca sale. Kirkbride & Co. was a prominent general store that flourished during and after the Civil War. All known denominations share a common layout, though bracketed with a different vignette on each. The title is across and the denomination FIVE CENTS is flanked by small Native American princess profile vignettes. City and date are at upper right and end panels are ornate. There is only faint handling. A gorgeous impression and a denomination acquired in the large transaction with D. C. Wismer in July 1939. Ex: Eric P.
