Large size auction appearances are far fewer than expected on this bank from Clayton, the seat of St. Louis county and a hub for financial activity. In fact, this pleasing, moderately circulated example from the Newman holdings is the first large note to cross the auction block in over six years. President McKinley is featured in a circular frame on the face, and Liberty and Progress (information courtesy of Arthur Friedberg) is on the back. It is well margined with bold stamped signatures and even, problem-free wear. This is only the third large size note from the location we have cataloged, and it is by far the nicest. Ex: Eric P.
