This earlier style $50 proof is rarer than most of the Exchange Bank proof types that appeared in the 1990 ABN Sale. There was only one to a sheet, and there were fewer of this sheet array in that epic offering. This example was from Wismer's collection and is the plate note (W-52) in the January 1928 The Numismatist listings for Missouri (continued). A lovely plate A India paper proof. A very wide vignette occupies the top half of this gorgeous note. The imprint of Bald, Cousland & Co., New York & Philada. is at the bottom, and there is no ABC monogram. A light orange lace tint covers most of the note, and a deeper tint outlines the white FIFTY protector. Allegorical females flank a large \"L\" shield; the figure at left has symbols of Justice and Commerce, and the one on the right has attributes of Liberty, Plenty, and Agriculture. The transportation-themed vignette in the background shows a steamboat at left and a train at right, both heading toward the center. An oval portrait of Lewis V. Bogy, first president of the bank, is in the lower left and the Missouri seal is in the lower right. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled,\" as made, and with a \"Small Edge Tear at Bottom Right.\" That listed fault is a raised thread as manufactured into the India paper.
