Benozzo's trial piece, the Drunkenness of Noah, was approved in 1468, and he was commissioned to paint a further 24 scenes from the Old Testament. In the use of anecdotal detail, the scenes relate closely to the contemporary frescoes of Domenico Ghirlandaio and Cosimo Rosselli in the Sistine Chapel. Benozzo continued to work on the cycle until at least 1484. The frescoes suffered severe damage in 1944 but have been recorded in 19th-century engravings and photographs. Grove Dictionary of Art.
