St. Louis, MO - Treasurer of the City of St. Louis-City Treasury Warrant $3 Contemporary Counterfeit June 1, 1861. PCGS Very Fine 35. A second contemporary imitation of the genuine with the false imprint of the American Bank Note Co., New-York, and letter A. The designs and layout are the same as other $3 notes from the issue. The false signature of Sussisky is at the bottom, and perhaps due to his fraudulent activity is somewhat fitting. Ernest W. Sussisky signed genuine notes as elected treasurer. He took notes, and used them to speculate in stock. His $20,000 loss was covered because he was a bonded elected official. Sussisky was convicted of, then pardoned for, embezzlement.) No. 1833. Printed quite darkly and with wider margins indicating this was a one-note plate, which was typical for a counterfeit type. The signature also appears to be engraved and is much better accomplished than the genuine ones observed on $1 and $2 notes. An exceptional, high-grade piece. Ex: Eric P.
