St. Louis, MO - Bank of the State of Missouri $50 Contemporary Counterfeit Nov. 1, 1848 MO-60 C6a. PCGS Very Fine 20. A second-style contemporary counterfeit that was also deceptive. This plate B counterfeit shows the false imprint Toppan, Carpenter & Co. Philad., which matches the genuine $50 note. The allegorical figure at top center has attributes of Moneta, Commerce, and America; she sits at the shore and is flanked by \"50\" dies. The ends show full-length portraits above denomination blocks: Daniel Boone in frontier-style clothing at left, and Thomas Hart Benton in formal dress at right. Showing similar diagnostics to the previous, with the left side of the wicker-covered jug straight and the man second from the far left taller than the one to his left. Shoe details are poorly defined and blurry. Plate B. No. W707. With normal circulation and soiling. An attractive example of this fascinating counterfeit. Ex: Eric P.
