The 8 is repunched at the top right outside with a thin artc, while the 4 has very strong surface doubling on top of that number. Although up until now designated as an \"1849/6\" (V-2), it is quite obvious by this early die state that it is in fact a  punched over an , not a 6. The lower loop of the 8 is plainly visible to the outside right of the 9 and the top loop can be seen in the 9's upper loop as well as above the ball. Again, surface doubling is in evident on top of the 9, showing remnants of the previously punched 8.
