A pleasing example of a very rare early note from this otherwise available St. Louis bank; it is one of only two Original Series $5s reported from this charter and the first of the two ever to make a public appearance. The design features Columbus on the front as he spies the New World, and on the back as prepares to plant the Spanish flag. Displaying very ample margins for this normally tight-margined type, it also exhibits vivid colors and lovely pen signatures. PCGS has noted a \"Small edge split at Top Left,\" but it is not readily discernable and does not detract at all from the overall appearance of this pretty note. Ex: Eric P.
