Cape Girardeau, MO - Bank of the State of Missouri, in Cape Girardeau $10 June 1, 1858 MO-60 G80 SENC. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent. A Cape Girardeau-issued $10 branch note that is exceedingly rare, or possibly unique. The note was printed from new plates with the Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co. Phila. & NY imprint at bottom center, but without the \"ABC\" monogram. A narrow, engraved red tint device with COUNTERSIGNED & REGISTERED outlined in white is above the vignette, and a red line for the signature of the \"Com'r\" is to the right. The layout is similar to that on the previous $10 types: The Zebulon Pike steamboat, townspeople, and Native American are at top center; Clark and Boone portraits are at left and right respectively between \"X\" blocks at the ends; the title is across on one line, with \"St. Louis\" above and to the left; the word THE, from the bank title has moved from above to below the vignette. Plate A. No. 592. Earlier than previous signature pairing with A.S. Robinson and the light, partially visible signature of Jas. M. Hughes. Countersigned by commissioner C. F. Jackson, future governor and Confederate general. Not surcharged as reissued. Grading notes an \"Edge Tear and Tape Repair at Left\" and \"Small Edge Splits; Pinholes.\" Those faults are more noticed from the blank back. The red color at the top center is vibrant and adds handsome contrast. Another great rarity residing in the Newman Collection for decades.
