St. Louis, MO - City of Saint Louis Warrant $1 November 1, 1873. PCGS Extremely Fine 40. The City of St. Louis November 1, 1873, notes are not rare, but the vast majority are low grade or harshly cancelled. Many thousands were printed, based on observations of five-digit serial numbers. Most were apparently redeemed as they were receivable for \"city taxes, licenses, and other municipal dues.\" An attractive series and note with green tint on the frame and guilloche, and showing the imprint of the National Bank Note Company, New-York at the bottom. An eagle with stars and stripes shield, arrow, and olive branch spreads its wings at top center. Denomination dies are at lower left and upper right. At upper left is a portrait of a young woman with bunches of grapes adorning her hair; at lower right, an allegorical female clutches a cherub. There are three engraved signatures. The security back is in brown with the title in the center. Plate B. No. 17918. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled,\" with four star-shaped holes. Bright and attractive.
