PCGS Very Choice New 64 Apparent. A final denomination from the four-note set acquired from Wismer in 1939. This is another well-crafted India paper proof engraved and printed by Danforth, Bald & Co., Philada. & New-York. Agriculture is at top center in a cartouche formed by the curved title, elegant text, and large FIVE protector. The left end has complicated denomination dies at top and bottom, each with an arcing FIVE bisected by a \"V\" on which perpendicular DOLLARS is bisected by a \"5\" oval; in between, a train travels forward. The portrait at the lower right now shows an older man, likely co-founder Daniel D. Page (Bacon's father-in-law, mayor of St. Louis from 1829-1833) and appears on this $5 denomination and on the engraved Page & Bacon drafts engraved by the same imprint. (see Stack's The 52 Collection Part I: Lot 5381). The 1981 Vacca collection sale $10 from the series used a third lower right portrait, depicting a younger man (that portrait also appears on the $10 \"on demand\" note from the bank). Hole Punch Cancelled, as made, and noted with \"Small Edge Tears; Hinges on Back.\" Another extremely rare proof, completing a lovely denomination set, and also the first we have cataloged.
