The Parliament became Hansen's most famous building. He chose a classical style to connote the political and artistic achievements of the Greeks. Corinthian porticos with richly sculpted pediments dominate the main façade on the Ringstrasse, and the great ramp leading up to the central portico makes the building a unique architectural monument in the context of the Ringstrasse. The heart of the building's interior is a great central hall, a Corinthian peristyle of 24 monolithic columns supporting a glass roof, forming an imposing entrance to the two semicircular chambers.
