Proof. PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ.  The second denomination in the series from the Newman Collection (the $1 was sold in Newman VI.) This is an extremely rare bank and the second we have cataloged. It was not in the Chester L. Krause Collection. The proof notes plated in Haxby and Krause are presumably from the Wisconsin Historical Society. Printed on an odd $1-$10 sheet configuration, this $10 example offers a second opportunity to obtain the exceedingly rare title. This Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New York proof is printed on India paper only. Under the arced title at the top, seated Commerce is at the shore. She leans on the Stars and Stripes shield and holds a spyglass. In the background, a ship is at sail at left, and a lighthouse is at the right. At lower right, a train travels forward while another rounds a bend as it chugs away. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" as made. The $1 proof from the sheet, PCGS Choice About New 58, realized $3,760 at the Newman Part VI sale in April 2015. The bank's rarity is without dispute, and this is the last of two denominations from the unique proof sheet in the Newman Collection. A tremendous opportunity to obtain what once seemed beyond reach.
