The obverse center and most of the reverse is brilliant, but the obverse margin exhibits deep navy-blue and plum-red toning. The boldly struck and coruscating surfaces are smooth aside from a couple of hair-thin marks on the right obverse field. The Newman specimen is tied for third finest known of the 1831 B-1 quarters.
