Proof. PCGS Choice New 63 Apparent. The highest denomination from this handsome Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New-York engraved series and unique in private hands to our knowledge. This is an India paper proof mounted on original cardstock. The train in the main vignette, unlike on the Milwaukee Bank $3, is unnamed. It travels past a Greek revival building, and a steamboat is seen in the far background. At right, between the \"5\" counter above and FIVE below is an oval portrait of George Washington. As seen on the Jefferson County Bank and Bank of Commerce $5 examples, at lower left is a large, elaborate \"V\" with a sailor, farmer and blacksmith outside and a female as Home Industry inside. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" and \"Mounted on Cardstock\" as made. There are some flaws, noted as \"Small Tears and Minor Damage in Cancellations,\" at the lower left. However, this is the only example available, and overall it is very beautiful. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society\n\nRealized $881.25. Newman VII (Heritage Auctions, 10/2015), lot 18758.
