This $20 India paper proof is the final denomination from the nine Union Bank proofs acquired from D. C. Wismer in 1939. Capping that set was the unique $100 color proof that sold for $61,687.50 in Newman Part VII. This is very rare, but two other $20 proofs are confirmed: one is the \"C\" position Haxby plate note and the other is the plate \"B\" Vacca sale note which sold for $945 in 1981. Another beautiful layout from the American Bank Note Company. The arced red TWENTY protector over the title is flanked by oval male portraits, with Daniel Webster at the right. The central vignette shows three frontiersmen setting up camp. One leans against a horse over which a slain stag is draped, another blows on a fire, and the third sits and observes. End panels have red lathe work backgrounds with denomination dies at top and bottom; oval portraits are in the center: a young woman at left and a girl at right Plate D. \"Hole Punch Cancelled,\" as made. Noted with \"Hinges on Back; Small Tears.\" These detriments are petty compared with the gorgeous appearance and extreme rarity.
