A handsome piece that saw light circulation but has surprisingly few field or rim marks. Light rub is seen on highest points of the emperor's cheek and hair as well as on the eagle's center on the reverse.  The first Mexican Empire, established upon Mexico's independence in 1821 was short-lived, lasting only eight months through March of 1823. General Agustin Iturbide was able to build a military coalition that took control in Mexico; in 1822 Iturbide was crowned Constitutional Emperor of Mexico at the Cathedral in Mexico City.
