The Baraboo full color proof series, printed from a $1-$2-$3-$5 plate by Danforth, Wright & Co., is one of the most visually striking in the Wisconsin Obsolete canon. The Newman Collection denominations are all on India paper mounted on the original card. Red lace tint is across the note, with deeper color dies in the upper corners and an outlined ONE protector. Sparks fly in the vivid scene taking place in a blacksmith's shop where a young smithy prepares to strike a piece of red hot metal. The bright sunlight at the open door in the center highlights the farrier at work. At the lower right, a Native American princess gazes pensively at a stream. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" and \"Mounted on Cardstock\" as made. There are some issued notes known from the bank, which converted to a National Bank, and there was a proof sheet in the American Banknote Company sale. The Krause Collection had two $1 notes.
