St. Charles, MO - Treasury or any of the Loan Offices of the State of Missouri $10 at 2% per Year Contemporary Counterfeit (Act of June 27, 1821) October 1, 1821 Cr. UNL. PCGS Very Fine 25 Apparent. The fifth and final example from this impressive quintet of 1821 State Loan Office notes is classified as a contemporary counterfeit. The cruder plate diagnostics of this $10 note (Cr. 05 type) compared to the genuine $10 note previous are obvious. Although the paper quality is fairly reasonable for the period, all the plate details are weak and the lettering is extremely amateurish, particularly along the top. Location and date are hand-accomplished. The signatures compare poorly with those on the genuine notes. Plate B. No. 614. Though a false note, this is very rare at the minimum. The first we have cataloged, like the previous four. An important comparison piece to the genuine $10, and fascinating on its own.
