WB-101. Ex: \"Col.\" E.H.R. Green. The 1879 half dollar was struck in a small quantity. This was primarily because the Mint diverted much of its resources to striking silver dollars after implementation of the Bland-Allison Act. Of the 1,100 proofs produced in 1879, this is among the finest known. The fields are mirror-like and set up a \"black\" background for the thickly frosted \"white\" devices. The interiors are mostly brilliant while the margins gradually increase in color to a deep golden-russet. The strike details are pinpoint-sharp throughout.
