Winslow, Army News Agent $1 Undated (1862) Kraus 54977, Leggett-UNL. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent. This is a very rare Civil war military-related issuer and it is ornately lithographed for this time period. Printed on greenish paper by Britton & Freligh, prs., Memphis. Although men ride on top of the bales, there appears to be no driver of the horse-drawn wagon at upper right. The left end panel shows a standing Native American princess and seated Ceres. A perpendicular red ONE is in a cartouche at the right end. The base vignette shows the head of a dog in profile. To its left is a train traveling east. In red are the denomination across, protector at upper left, and issuer name. This variant does not have \"Corinth\" crossed out like the examples plated in the Keller sutler paper money book. Noted with \"Small Edge Tear at Top Right; Minor Rust Stains.\" Overall, the note is very solid bodied, bright and attractive. A very rare note and likely top-grade for the issuer. Ex: Eric P.
