Wonderful colors of the inks and paper highlight this one-number 1878 $5 Legal Tender note. The survival rate is quite low compared to most notes, with only 211 examples listed in Track & Price in spite of a very large printing for the era. The Gene  Hessler and Carlson Chambliss reference, The Comprehensive Catalog of U.S. Paper Money shows a print figure of 6,032,000. A fair number of the 200+ survivors are uncirculated, but this is one of the technically nicer, as well as more attractive examples that we have seen.  Ex: Eric P.
