This original AU specimen is one of the higher grade coins of this rare die combination. An 1840 Seated Liberty obverse was muled with a reverse die used on the 50c issues minted in 1838 and 1839 (medium letters), thus creating a very collectible variety. The many heavy die cracks shown here on the reverse are diagnostic of this coin.
