Specimen. PCGS Gem New 65PPQ.  Several of the Wisconsin banks may not have asked for proofs, but instead received bond paper Specimen notes with hole punch cancels. This Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New York series is an example of that type of Specimen note. The Chester L. Krause Collection had several notes from the genre. Most of his Specimens came from D.C. Wismer via the James Bookbinder acquisition. The layout and vignettes are beautifully styled. The charming scene at lower left shows a Native American princess, with bow, spear and a quiver of arrows, shielding her eyes from the sun. Some deer are nearby at the right but only the buck seems to sense her presence. A canoe and tepees are in the distance. At lower right, seated Liberty wears a laurel wreath and holds a capped liberty pole. Her hand rests on a large \"1.\" Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" as prepared at the printer. The Krause Collection had a $1 proof that sold for $2,760 in September 2009. This is an extremely rare, elegant and Gem Specimen note. Ex: Eric P.
