This is the lowest denomination from the series engraved and printed by Toppan, Carpenter, Casilear & Co. on $2-$3-$5-$5 sheets. It is a remainder note printed on bond paper. At the center, Hope is seated with a shield showing an anchor. A standing sailor and a seated female as Commerce and Plenty are at the lower left, and a female portrait is at the lower right.
