PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent.  An unusual note worthy of study, a hallmark of the Newman Collection. Though listed in both Haxby and Hoober as being an issue of the Bank of North America, it seems to be in character with a private spurious note as listed in Haxby (though not confirmed or illustrated). The note was payable \"In Specie or Paper of the Bank of North America,\" which would be odd language for a note from the bank itself. Engraved by S. Hufty, Philadelphia, this $5 has a small oval portrait of Washington framed by branches and a glory. End panels and counters have interesting \"woven\" backgrounds. \"Minor Rust Stains on Back\" are noted and do not affect the appealing face. An intriguing and rare example. Ex: Eric P.
