PCGS Very Fine 25 Apparent.   The Bank of the United States issues, commencing in 1791, are complex and comprise a separate section in volume 4 of Haxby. This is appropriate since there are Philadelphia parent bank types, written branch location notes, spurious and contemporary counterfeit notes, and some series that are not listed. Since those written branch locations were actually written in at the specific city of issue, it is appropriate to classify them to those states and cities as we have done in the Newman Collection cataloging. Some of the earliest types are listed in Newman. Texts are across, counters are at the top, an oval eagle vignette is at bottom center, and drop-shadowed TEN is perpendicular on a shaded end panel at the left. \"Pen Cancelled,\" consisting of two overlapped \"X\" marks, and with \"Minor Ink Erosion\" noted by grading. The back is endorsed by a court in South Carolina, similar to some other Bank of the United States notes from the Newman Collection cataloged in earlier sales.
