PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent.  A rare scrip note. Wolka knew of five examples, one of which is in the Western Reserve Library Collection. With this example, there are now six known. The Himrod Furnace Company was in operation from 1860 until after 1887. The company's three furnaces in Youngstown produced 12,942 tons of iron in 1872. This post note was payable four months after the date at an 8% interest. Although printed to be issued in 1873, the year was changed to 1874 by writing over the final digit. A cherub is at lower left. At the right end, a woman carries a basket of produce on her head. A large rose-red \"V\" protector is at the center, and the serial number is printed on a rose cartouche. Noted as \"Pen Cancelled,\" which consists of a single red line through the signature. Grading also mentions the note is \"Stained\" and has \"Edge Tears,\" but the text, devices and vignettes are all clearly visible. Ex: Eric P.
