The nave and narthexes were completed by 1321 and decorated in mosaic, while the parekklesion and lesser areas were painted. In the inner narthex are cycles of the Life of the Virgin and the Life of Christ. In one vault is an intimate domestic scene, \"The Virgin Caressed by Her Parents.\" The architectural backdrop is oddly contorted to fit the curved surface of the vault.
