The Nazis needed somewhere to send the people who would be “missed”: disabled German war veterans, war heroes, scientists, artists, and others who were internationally known were brought to Theresienstadt so the Nazis could keep track of them and make their well-being known should the world start questioning what happened to them. Over 70,000 elderly Jews stayed in the ghetto, usually briefly, before being sent to their deaths.</p><p>The Nazis used the Theresienstadt “show” ghetto for propaganda purposes, inviting a Red Cross inspection in 1944, and the objects here serve to illustrate the “normalcy” the Nazi wished to convey. Included are the ID card of Charlotte Weinstein, a bank book for 1944 (denominated in Theresienstadt crowns), a drink coupon, and a musical concert pass. This group was accompanied by two wartime sketches by Weinstein. <br></p>"},{"label":"Collecting Area","value":["Numismatics"]},{"label":"Collection Name","value":["Image Collections"]}],"description":"Theresienstadt bank book","sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","canvases":[{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/washu/iiif/910746aa-eb01-43ef-81d0-21ae6f7b6cfd/canvas/_1","@type":"sc:Canvas","label":"WWIIexhibitionmaterials-ACCESS-015","height":3588,"width":2540,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/washu/iiif/58e92033-2b37-494c-84a6-073aa7ca31ce/full/full/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","format":"image/jpeg","service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/washu/iiif/58e92033-2b37-494c-84a6-073aa7ca31ce","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"},"height":3588,"width":2540},"on":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/washu/iiif/910746aa-eb01-43ef-81d0-21ae6f7b6cfd/canvas/_1","metadata":[]}],"thumbnail":{"@id":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/washu/iiif/58e92033-2b37-494c-84a6-073aa7ca31ce/full/500,500/0/default.jpg","@type":"dctypes:Image","height":500,"width":500}}]}],"thumbnail":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/washu/iiif/58e92033-2b37-494c-84a6-073aa7ca31ce/full/300,300/0/default.jpg","logo":"https://iiif.quartexcollections.com/washu/iiif/logo"}
