A basket is seen beside her, as is a December calendar. The boy wears a stocking cap, coat, scarf, and mittens, all while holding a large bundle of sticks for kindling. He is dismay because the fire is low and there are no logs to burn, only the sticks he holds. It is Christmas Eve.
