It was located sixty miles north of Berlin and opened in May, 1939. Prisoners were put through various forms of torture, as well as frequent executions. They did heavy labor in local SS factories. The SS also led several medical experiments. Many children were also prisoners at the camp, and often women were forced to watch as their babies were murdered. The medical experiments were performed on children as well. Those children who were strong enough to work were sometimes able to survive.
