In 1332 Pope John granted a 40-day indulgence to those attending services in the castle chapel, which is dedicated to Saint Ulrich. In 1475 Dieter of Isenburg had the castle strengthened with two outer walls following the \"Mainz bishops feud\" with Count Adolph of Nassau, and in 1633 in the 30-Years War, the castle suffered badly at the hands of the Swedish and imperial troops, losing its important role. In 1803 as part of the secularization of the Mainz archbishopric, Lahneck Castle was granted to the Duchy of Nassau, and from 1850 it has been privately owned. In 1907 Imperial Admiral Robert Mischke purchased Lahneck Castle. The castle has been owned by his family ever since.
