November 22, 1775 $5 Newman 1.1 Contemporary Counterfeit Fictitious Date Fr. CC-15CF. PCGS Very Fine 30. This is a fascinating and exceedingly rare note. It is a crude contemporary counterfeit with a fictitious November 22, 1775, date (instead of November 29, 1775). No. [illegible]. Printed on thin paper. Diagnostics: This bill has a fictitious date of issue. It was copied from the November 29, 1775, issue. Newman 1.1: Crudely engraved. On the face: The period is omitted after No to the left of the serial number. In the text, there is a blank space between the E and M of NOVEMBER. In the vignette, the top finger of the hand extends far to the right of the center branch instead of ending just left of it. On the back: There is coarsely engraved cross-hatching on and around the leaves of the nature print. A clean example with sharp printing clarity on both sides. This is a great rarity and we are not aware of another example. Most likely unique and a highlight in this extraordinary collection of contemporary counterfeits. Ex: Eric P.
